Who We Are

So, About Us.

For people who’ve been told they’re too complicated.

You’re not. You just haven’t been seen clearly yet. So You Need Therapy was built for the cases other clinics find difficult — because that’s exactly where real specialization matters.

Who We Work With

The people who keep getting missed.

These aren’t separate problems. They’re a pattern — the same people, whose descriptions fall short, and the specific ways we see this drive us to do something different.

Women with ADHD

Told they were just anxious or scattered. Missed for years because the diagnostic picture was built for someone else.

  • We diagnose, support, and treat ADHD as it actually shows up in real lives — not the narrower picture from research that, for decades, studied primarily young boys.

Autistic adults — especially late-diagnosed

Exhausted from masking, finally looking for a clinician who understands what late identification actually means.

  • We work with autism as a way of experiencing the world — not as a deficit to mask better.

Men with BPD

Undertreated, often misread. Coming in once the stereotypes have stopped being a useful explanation.

  • BPD treatment shouldn't be at the mercy of a stereotype. We work with men whose BPD has been called everything except what it is.

Women with NPD

Rarely diagnosed, rarely treated well. Looking for a clinician who can hold complexity without reducing it to a label.

  • We treat NPD as a real condition that can be treated — not a personality flaw to dismiss or stigmatize.

People with medication fears

Not anti-medication — thoughtful about it. Wanting a real conversation, not a prescription handed over a desk.

  • Our in-house Nurse Practitioners have those conversations the way they actually need to happen — slowly, honestly, and on your timeline.

People with overlapping presentations

ADHD and trauma. Autism and BPD. The ones whose picture never quite fit any single box.

  • Our team is designed for complexity — therapists, social workers, and nurse practitioners who actually talk to each other about your care.

How This Clinic Is Set Up

Five things we do differently.

None of these are revolutionary on their own. The difference is that we do all five — together, deliberately, as the baseline of how the clinic runs.

Specialization depth, with internal supervision

Every therapist on our team has post-graduate training in specific clinical areas — BPD, ADHD, autism, trauma, NPD, addictions. This isn’t “we treat a wide range of issues.” This is each clinician with deep, named training in the conditions they work with. The team is supported by ongoing internal clinical supervision from David Bruce, RP — a senior psychotherapist with three decades of clinical experience and a former appointed committee member with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

An integrated team

Psychotherapists, registered social workers, and nurse practitioners working under one roof, with regular case coordination. When your care involves more than one clinician, they’re not just sharing a building — they’re talking to each other about your treatment.

Three-person psychiatric consultations

When a client needs psychiatric input — for diagnostic clarity, medication questions beyond a Nurse Practitioner’s scope, or a second opinion — we bring a consulting psychiatrist directly into the session alongside the client and therapist. No starting from scratch with a stranger. No bouncing between providers.

Neuro-affirming framing

ADHD, autism, BPD, and complex trauma get worked with as ways of experiencing the world — not as symptoms to suppress. The goal of treatment isn’t to make you conform to somebody else’s definition of normal. It’s to help you understand yourself, regulate your nervous system, and build a life that fits how you actually work.

Nuanced medication conversations

Our in-house Nurse Practitioners can have the medication conversations most therapists can’t legally have, and most prescribing doctors don’t have time for. Slow, honest, ongoing conversations about whether medication makes sense for you — without being rushed or dismissed.

Why We Built This Clinic

In their own words.

So You Need Therapy was co-founded by Anju Uddin and David Bruce — two clinicians with different paths into this work and complementary takes on what was missing in mainstream care.

Even after psychotherapy training and working in the field, it took me a year to realize I had ADHD. My family doctor, someone I’d seen for over ten years, hadn’t caught it. Every symptom I brought him got chalked up to anxiety. When I told him I think I have ADHD, he agreed, wrote the prescription, and it was a game changer. When I went back to titrate, he sent me to a psychiatrist — and asked whether I really needed to be on it at all. That psychiatrist appointment took almost a year to get. I’m a trained psychotherapist who knew exactly what she was asking for, and I still left appointments feeling like I was exaggerating my symptoms.

Women weren’t really part of the ADHD conversation back then. Honestly, we’re still underrepresented — and that’s not unique to ADHD. That’s the experience of most women navigating healthcare. It’s a big part of why we built this clinic the way we did.

I don’t want another person — especially a woman — to have to fight that hard to be believed.

Meet Anju

I came to psychotherapy by way of parish ministry — thirty years sitting with people in acute distress: victims of intimate partner violence, suicide survivors, prison inmates, then homeless men and chronic substance users. I left ministry in 2015 to work full-time with those older, courageous, troubled men at what is now Haven Toronto, and later helped build what became the largest one-on-one free psychotherapy program in the province at St. Michael’s Homes.

My own family of origin, like so many, was acquainted with mental health and addictions — I saw my experience reflected in the people I was working with, and helping felt natural. What I saw in Anju was a clinician with the energy, business clarity, and ambition to build something different from the standard model — where treatment isn’t measured in pre-packaged sessions to fit what an insurance company will cover, and where complex cases aren’t politely turned away.

That’s the clinic we’re building.
